IB Teach hopes that every student who is signing up for an IB course is pretty motivated because they need to have a sort of a can-do attitude. It might be just reading or practice sample problems. In other words, there will be a variety of different assignments and IB Teach hopes that students who take the course will help each other and ask for help when needed.

Course prerequisites

What about the prerequisites that we have for IB Teach students. Firstly, students will have to have taken science, physics, and chemistry. In terms of biology during the junior year, students can take IB environmental while being currently enrolled in either IB biology year one or in the on-level biology. To put it another way,  if students choose to take it their senior year, it’s possible to take IB environmental with another science course. In a nutshell, the 11th graders can be currently enrolled in any of the biology classes that IB Teach teaches. In terms of the diploma, one of the great things about environmental systems and societies course is that it’s considered one of the interdisciplinary courses. Therefore, this class can be offered in experimental sciences which is a group of four of individuals and societies that is similar to social studies. In the IB Environmental Systems and Societies course students need to take into account other course requirements for graduation.

IB Exams

The exam includes two written IB papers at a particular month. The internal assessment and IA won’t be in the same month as the paper exams. They are usually due in late February. Regrading the grades for IB Teach, it’ll be very similar to other science courses. There will be topic tests, final exams, labs, projects, and presentations. The only exception is the IA which is different from most other science classes. To summarise, the first exam that students are going to take is basically similar to a case study. They get a resource booklet that includes graphs, maps, and diagrams. Next, students will answer questions on that. The second exam is short answer extended response. Students will have essays  as they have to choose which essay they want to do.

The IA is an independent investigation that students will do regarding an environmental issue. One of the great things about environmental science is that students have the chance of doing a field-based project. Moreover, students can do social research in which they will be sent out for surveys more often. The students will be getting biases and opinions on different environmental issues. Not to forget that students can also use a data set that already exists as long as they interpret the data in an authentic way. To keep things short, students will write research questions and come up with their methodology to analyze them. After that, students should come up with solutions, then they evaluate those solutions. In general, the assignment is approximately 10 hours of individual work time.
